Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stint with Liverpool is set to come to an end this summer when the defender departs for Real Madrid.
Whilst the transfer is not 100% confirmed just yet, Alexander-Arnold is set to join Madrid at the end of this season when the right-back’s contract with Liverpool expires, with the 26-year-old ready to become the latest superstar signing for Los Blancos.
Although Liverpool could still receive a fee for Alexander-Arnold, the fullback departing his boyhood club is going to sting for supporters, even with the England international winning everything there is to win for the Reds and leading them to a second Premier League title this season.
Yet Jamie Carragher has highlighted one that has left the former Liverpool defender disappointed with Alexander-Arnold’s move to Madrid.

Speaking on Stick to Football, the pundit shared how his one disappointment with Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool is that the defender could have stayed to put the Reds in a position where they could one day be closer to Madrid in terms of reputation and European titles won.
Carragher said: “As a local player and a Liverpool fan, Liverpool are in a position in the last five or six years where they’re competing for the league and the European Cup every year, so if you’re a local player and a Liverpool fan, I’m just disappointed that he doesn’t think that this is it.
“I put myself in his position, we could go level with United here on leagues won, I’ve got another seven years at Liverpool, I want to win three or four ahead of them, can we win another European Cup.
We always talk about rivalries, but we never think about rivalries as European, and in some ways, Real Madrid is a rival.

“Nobody’s going to catch Real Madrid in terms of European Cups, they are the biggest club, but I’m desperate for Liverpool to be second on that list, if I was him, I’d be thinking we’d have a great opportunity to win this league at put Liverpool in a position [to compete for more].
“I’m disappointed as a Liverpool fan, that’s the only thing I’m looking at, Stevie [Gerrard] didn’t have that, McManaman didn’t have that.”
Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in the world and a rare breed of defender who can influence the attack as much as the back, a trait that has made the Liverpool right-back as influential as he has been in the last eight years.
Yet with the Liverpool board proving to be making mistake after mistake in regards to player contracts and funds being made available for new signings, Alexander-Arnold has done all he can on the pitch for Liverpool, something that has still lead to an incredible amount of success in recent seasons.
Indeed, Alexander-Arnold’s dream is to win the Ballon d’Or, something that the defender will only achieve at a club like Madrid, and the fullback has given more to Liverpool than most players have throughout their history, which alone should make the England international a legend for the Reds.
