The international break is in full swing, yet that doesn’t mean that there’s no football being played at Liverpool during the break from club action.
The annual Charity Match took place this weekend with Liverpool Legends this year taking on Chelsea Legends, with some huge names such as Steven Gerrard, Jerzy Dudek and Dirk Kuyt all featuring for the Reds.
The star of the show, though, was Peter Crouch, with the former striker scoring a brace as the now-pundit led Liverpool to a 2-0 win against Chelsea at a sold-out Anfield, with all funds raised from the match going to support the work of LFC Foundation at home and abroad.
And after the full-time whistle, Crouch shared what makes Liverpool fans so special after so many supporters came out to watch the latest charity match at Anfield.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official YouTube channel alongside Gerrard, the former Tottenham and Stoke City man praised the Anfield support for turning up in such huge numbers to support a good cause for the Reds.
With Fernando Torres featuring for Liverpool in this fixture last year, the Reds went one step beyond this time around by bringing out a number of big-name players from recent seasons, including those who played in Istanbul during the famous UEFA Champions League final win.
Yet for Crouch, the thing that mattered most was the support from the fans, with the Liverpool cult hero blown away by what he saw from the crowd and how many people turned up to watch the latest edition of the Legends series.

Crouch said: “I’ve been at various different clubs, and Stevie [Gerrard] said it himself, it doesn’t happen anywhere else this, there’s something special about the fanbase of Liverpool, and for them to come out during an international break to watch us is amazing.”
Liverpool supporters rightfully have one of the best reputations out of any fanbase in Europe, with certain results at Anfield being driven by the energy created from the stands to intimidate the opposing teams.
Although Micah Richards thought Newcastle United fans were louder during the Carabao Cup final, Liverpool supporters have been praised throughout this season for their efforts, with Luis Enrique lauding the Anfield atmosphere after PSG’s win at Merseyside earlier this month.
Indeed, Liverpool fans turning up in big numbers for a good cause should not be a surprise to many, but for figure like Crouch, it’s clear how much the supporters mean to him and his opinion of the Reds well after his playing days.
