With an international break comes a sense of dread that Liverpool will be out of action for a short period of time.
However, as players go off to represent their countries, interesting stories can often develop that you wouldn’t see normally during a Premier League campaign.
Dominik Szoboszlai joined up with Hungary for their two Nations League fixtures against Turkey.
The Hungarians found themselves on the end of a damaging defeat, as they were beaten 6-1 on aggregate over two legs.
A tie that had a lot on the line, but with Hungary tasting the bitterness of defeat, they were relegated from the top division of the UEFA Nations League.
The high intensity of the match led to understandably heightened emotions, and it appears that Szoboszlai has made an enemy in Arda Guler.
During the second leg, the Liverpool midfielder clashed with the Turkish youngster, and their spat continued off the pitch.
Following the game, Szoboszlai left a comment on an Instagram post, issuing a brutal jab at the Turkish youngster, as he made fun of the amount of minutes that Arda Guler had played this season, ‘1088’.
Guler reacted strongly, saying: “This guy is a joke.
Isn’t six goals enough to shut you up?”
No love lost between these two then.
Potential Premier League move for Güler
Now, they could be set for an awkward reunion as Aston Villa sporting director Monchi has spoken of his wishes to sign the Real Madrid forward, sparking rumours of a potential summer transfer.
Monchi told Marca: “He’s a player who met a number of requirements and could be attractive to Aston Villa.
Personally, I think he’s a player with very good technical skills, and I also think he has personality.”
Szoboszlai has exploded into life under Arne Slot, becoming a vital cog in a machine that has seen Liverpool achieve such high levels of success this season.
If Guler was to move to England, Szoboszlai could find himself face to face with the Turkish international in the Premier League, it could be fascinating to see how this newfound rivalry could materialize on a Premier League pitch.
