Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed that he is still in close contact from someone in the Manchester City squad.

The Hungarian has a middling campaign to date, being praised for his tenacity and work rate but being criticised for his lack of raw G/A output.

Jamie Carragher has been vocal about his expectations for the £60m midfielder, particularly after Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton in November 2024.

The Reds legend argued that Szoboszlai’s four goals in 45 Premier League appearances fell short of the standards set by peers in the attacking midfield role.

And it seems that he could be boasting about it to Manchester City man Erling Haaland.

The pair spent one year together at RB Salzburg during the 2019/20 season.

Quizzed on his relationship with the Norwegian, the 24-year-old explained that he and Haaland hit it off in Austria and their relationship has continued to this day:

“Time flies, it goes quick!” he said during an interview with Optus Sports.

“I just look back… we played in Salzburg for one year together.”

“Playing in our first Champions League games there – he scored a hattrick [on debut], I scored just a goal.”

“We had a really close, good connection outside of the pitch as well.”

“And now we are still in contact, he plays for City, won the treble in 2023 – I will not win the treble this year, but hopefully in the next years,” Szoboszlai smiled.
