Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has reflected on an 'emotional' year with Hungary as they rounded off their 2024 international fixtures with a 1-1 draw against Germany.

The 24-year-old scored in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time to earn a point in their final game of their Nations League A campaign.

Prior to Germany's visit to Budapest, Hungary's fate was all but sealed in third with a significant swing needed to gazump Holland, and Reds teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo to move into second.



Szoboszlai's penalty earned a deserved point after Alexander Nubel's goal was put under pressure throughout the contest.

The point means that Hungary will now be forced to play a relegation playoff fixture where they face a runner-up from League B - which includes Ukraine, Greece, Austria and Turkey.

In a post on Instagram, Szoboszlai said: "It was an eventful and emotional year, with a good ending.

Thank you for your support throughout the year, next year at the same place!"

The Hungary skipper has endured a difficult year for his country, narrowly missing out on qualification out of their European Championships group as one of the best third-placed teams.

During their encounter with Holland in the November international break, Szoboszlai was in tears after coach Adam Szalai collapsed in the early stages of their clash in Amsterdam.

Then it's a bit scary, to be honest.

"At one point it became clear that he was stable.
