Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has made a bizarre transfer claim involving Liverpool and Manchester United.

Yorke, a Trinidad and Tobago international, enjoyed a prolific career at Manchester United from 1998 to 2002

Joining from Aston Villa, Yorke quickly made an impact, forming a legendary partnership with Andy Cole.

In his debut season, he played a crucial role in United’s historic treble-winning campaign, securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League titles.

But it seems he has some quite outlandish thoughts about potential transfer business between Liverpool and Manchester United.

The two archrivals almost never do transfer business together.

Since the 1964 transfer of Phil Chisnall from United to Liverpool, no player has been transferred directly between the two clubs.

Paul Ince left Manchester United in 1995 and spent two years at Inter Milan before returning to the Premier League with Liverpool in 1997.

Ince got a lot of flak from both sets of fans, but what Dwight Yorke has suggested is bordering on insanity.

What did Dwight Yorke say about Liverpool?

This summer, a wide range of players, including Jarrad Branthwaite, Joshua Zirkzee, and Manuel Ugarte, have been tipped as possible targets for Manchester United.

After finishing eighth in the Premier League (their lowest finish since the old First Division rebranded into what is now), the Red Devils are aware that things need to get better.

And Dwight York believes that a certain Liverpool vice-captain could be enticed to a move to Old Trafford under the right circumstances:

“I’m not sure Trent Alexander-Arnold would want to leave Liverpool as it’s his boyhood club, but Liverpool will be under transition now Jurgen Klopp has left,” began Yorke via FourFourTwo?

“Maybe, Alexander-Arnold can evolve as a midfielder under Slot.”

“This could be another opportunity where, if Liverpool don’t perform under Slot and Alexander-Arnold becomes unhappy, Man United should do everything they can to sign him.”

“I was the first person to suggest that Man United should have signed Leroy Sane started to become frustrated at Man City when he was on the bench frequently, now he’s one of the best players in Germany.”

“Alexander-Arnold may have a similar opportunity which Man United should pounce on.”

“Obviously, there is history between the clubs and Alexander-Arnold will know that as an Englishman, but it can be an opportunity to look out for.”

There’s not much to say here other than that it is wishful thinking by the former Manchester United man.

While he was fine player in his day, he should know that it would be very difficult to see Trent Alexnader-Arnold leaving Liverpool – never mind for the club’s archrival.
