The EFL will continue the trial of in-stadium VAR announcements by referees at next month's Carabao Cup final despite the opposition of Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
Liverpool and opponents Newcastle have been told by the EFL that the experiment will continue at Wembley after it was trialled for the first time in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Slot described the announcements, which involve the referee explaining the final decision over the stadium’s public address system following a VAR review at the pitch-side monitor, as "not necessary" after the semi-finals.
The Dutchman also raised concerns that addressing the crowd could lead to referees receiving more abuse if fans are unhappy with a decision, which could in turn put them under greater pressure for the rest of the game.

In-stadium VAR announcements were trialled at the Club World Cup and the Under-20 World Cup before being used for the first time at a major event at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
FIFA intend to use them at this summer's Club World Cup, but after the Carabao Cup semi-final experiment clubs have raised concerns about the consistency with which they are applied.
