Newcastle United are preparing for a massive challenge.
They are set to face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, a chance to win silverware and prove their progress under Eddie Howe.
But going into such a big game, every team wants their best players available.
That’s why Newcastle fans were left worried when Anthony Gordon saw red in their FA Cup clash against Brighton.
It was the 83rd minute when the English winger pushed a Brighton defender in the head.
The referee had no doubts and sent him off immediately.
The red card means the Englishman will miss the Carabao final against Liverpool.
But the question on the fans’ minds: Can and will the club appeal?
Newcastle supporters were waiting for answers.
Eddie Howe has now given them.
Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle considering appealing Anthony Gordon red card
The Newcastle boss has confirmed the club’s stance.
He said, “Of course.
If we analyse the incident and feel there’s grounds for that [an appeal], we will do without hesitation.”
“I’d need to see it, I can’t sit here and give an honest opinion to that until I’ve done the work that you’ve done and looked at it.”
“But knowing the player, I know there’s no malice intended there.”
“He plays hard – I want him to play hard, I want him to be competitive, but I don’t see an issue there at this moment.
He continued, “I think it would be very out of context with how he is generally, maybe a bit of frustration in the game that things weren’t going our way, but I’d say that’s not a common sight for me when Anthony plays.”
If the club takes it up and wins, the winger could still play against Liverpool in the final.
Whether the appeal succeeds or not, Liverpool fans will be watching closely.
