Liverpool, riding high after a commanding 2-0 victory over Manchester City, are set to welcome Newcastle United to Anfield on Wednesday evening for another potential title-deciding clash.
This encounter marks the first of two meetings between the sides in a month, with the Carabao Cup final scheduled for March 16.
As Liverpool continue their march toward the Premier League title, they face a Newcastle side pushing for Champions League qualification.
Newcastle, currently fifth in the Premier League, have experienced a “feast or famine” season, marked by inconsistency in performances.
Despite this, they have won 13 of their last 16 games across all competitions.
Historically, Liverpool have dominated this fixture, winning 20 of the last 31 meetings.
Newcastle have managed just four victories in that period.
The Opta supercomputer gives Liverpool a 60.1% chance of victory, with Newcastle at 19.8%.
But ahead of the clash, Eddie Howe had some positive injury news in what will come as possible boost for the Magpies’ travelling side.
Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle United injury news
Speaking in his pre-Liverpool press conference, Howe revealed that key Newcastle pair Joelinton and Sven Botman are in line for a possible return – with a decision to be made closer to the time.
Botman suffered a knee injury during the Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Arsenal, though it was expected to be a minor knock.
The injury has since kept him out for three matches.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian enforcer also suffered a knee issue after being Forced off during Newcastle’s defeat against Fulham earlier in February.
“Sven’s improving and he’s improving quickly, so we’ll see whether he makes it.
Joey is a massive player for us.”
Meanwhile, Sandro Tonali ‘came through the game fine’ after a recent hamstring niggle only afforded him a substitute appearance in their recent 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest.
The only confirmed Newcastle absentee is defender Jamaal Lascelles, who has been ruled out for most of the season with another knee injury.
