The Egypt FA has reportedly reached a crucial verdict regarding Mohamed Salah as the season nears its conclusion for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s recent defeats to Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle, and Fulham have sparked debates about a potential loss of momentum, despite their commanding 11-point lead at the Premier League summit heading into the final matchdays.
The 3-2 loss at Craven Cottage on April 6 on Sunday, marked a third defeat in four matches, ending a 26-game unbeaten league run and exposing uncharacteristic defensive vulnerabilities.
While manager Arne Slot has dismissed fatigue as a factor, attributing the setbacks to isolated errors rather than systemic issues, it has felt like a long season for this Liverpool squad.
Slot’s reluctance to rotate his squad—making only one change against Fulham—has also drawn scrutiny.
The likes of Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott continue to be bit-part players.
While he argued that four-day gaps between games are manageable, the team’s labored first-half performances against Everton and Fulham, coupled with a lack of sharpness in attack, hint at cumulative fatigue.
For Liverpool, it could have been even worse if they had participated in the Club World Cup (CWC) that starts on June 14, three weeks from the end of the season.
Added on to the CWC, there is still national team football in the summer as well, meaning some Reds will not get the maximum amount of rest.
But luckily for Liverpool, Salah is set for a well-deserved stint away from football in May.
That’s because Egyptian journalist Ismael Mahmoud has reported that Mohamed Salah as well as Man City’s Omar Marmoush will be exempt from national team duty this summer, albeit for different reasons:
“Great news for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.
Omar Marmoush will not join Egypt’s national team camp in June as he’ll be representing the club in the FIFA Club World Cup?
The Egyptian forward is fully focused on the global tournament.”
“The same for Mo Salah, who will take some rest after the end of the season.”
“Decision made.”
Salah will be 33 soon, and playing football at the top level almost 12 months of the year cannot be good for his longevity at Liverpool.
With the number of games cropping up aside from the club calendar, these kinds of exclusions have started to become a necessity rather than a special arrangement.
