Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has broken his silence on Mohamed Salah and his contract situation at Liverpool FC.
The Egyptian star, who has been in sensational form this season, scoring over 25 Premier League goals, still finds himself in contract limbo with less than three months remaining before he can leave on a free transfer.
This persistent uncertainty creates an unnecessary distraction during what should be a period of celebration for a team dominating the league standings.
Despite months of reported negotiations, Liverpool’s talismanic forward remains without a new deal as the final months of his current contract tick away.
The saga began publicly in November 2024 when Salah made the stunning admission that he had not received a contract offer from Liverpool.
“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club, [so] I’m probably more out than in,” Salah revealed after scoring twice in a 3-2 win against Southampton.
And amid genuine concerns that the 32-year-old will be playing his final games for Anfield after the international break, his national team coach broke his silence on the contract saga:
“I will be the first to support and stand by Salah in any decision he makes,” Hassan said in his pre-Ethiopia press conference as quoted by journalist Ismael Mahmoud:
“I know it’s not an easy situation, but he is a great player who will handle it well.”
“I wish him success wherever he goes—he is Egypt’s finest ambassador.”
He also spoke on Egypt’s chances of winning the AFCON 2025, and hopes Mohamed Salah will be able to finish his career with a deserved continental title:
“It’s time for Salah to lift the Africa Cup of Nations—he deserves it,’ the head coach continued.
The competition is tough, but Egypt is capable of winning the title.’
“Mo is a great player who fully deserves his status.”
“Having him with us is fantastic… Everyone in the national team, led by Salah, is giving their all to fulfill the dreams of the Egyptian people, who count on their stars to win the title and qualify for the World Cup.”
