Manchester City star Erling Haaland has shown his support for Dominik Szoboszlai after the midfielder starred in Liverpool’s win on Wednesday.

The Reds secured their 20th league win of the season on Wednesday as they brushed Eddie Howe’s side to go 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister secured the win, extending their unbeaten run in the league to 24 games.

Szoboszlai’s goal was his sixth for the season and his second in as many games, following his goal against Manchester City at the weekend.

After the win, Slot praised the Hungarian for his goal and hard work in the team.

“I think he’s been very, very important to us the whole season,” Slot told TNT Sports on Wednesday night.

“Not always was his quality seen.

But again, today, people talk about his goal, which they should because it was an important goal and a good goal.

“But I think what helped the team even more than him scoring a goal was the number of times he wins the second ball; he wins the ball back for us, he runs for two players.

Szoboszlai’s social media post after the win attracted a comment from Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

The Hungarian shared a picture on Instagram of himself celebrating against Newcastle alongside a caption that included skull and wand emojis.

Haaland responded with a comment that simply said, “Yeaaah.”

Haaland and Szoboszlai may be rivals on the pitch but the pair remain friends off the field, having spent time together in the Austrian Bundesliga with RB Salzburg.

In 2023, Szoboszlai revealed why he and Haaland are close despite being rivals.

“We got really close because we were young,” Haaland said.

“Great player, great guy, so yeah,” Szoboszlai revealed in 2023.

And he said, ‘Congratulations, the Premier League is crazy.”

“We’ve talked, so much so that Erling Haaland has also advised on finding real estate, and it could very well be that we become neighbours.

“I learned from him that several players live halfway between Manchester and Liverpool in a quiet area where privacy can be preserved, and on Monday I will see what he was talking about, I am very curious.

“And of course, putting our friendship aside during the Liverpool-Manchester City matches, it will surely be a fantastic experience to play against each other.”
