David Moyes has provided a brief Everton injury update ahead of a big Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
The match, scheduled for 19:30 GMT, marks the final derby to be played at the historic Goodison Park before Everton’s move to their new stadium.
Liverpool enter the derby on the back of a disappointing 1-0 FA Cup loss to Plymouth Argyle, where Slot heavily rotated his squad.
Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley, Andy Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota, were all given the fixture off.
While the defeat ended their hopes of an unprecedented quadruple but may have allowed key players to rest for the crucial league fixture.
Everton, on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Bournemouth in their FA Cup tie but are generally doing in a good direction.
The PSR concerns have lifted, and David Moyes has been galvanizing the Toffees – they have won their last three Premier League against Tottenham, Brighton, and Leicester City respectively.
But the Goodison Park side have more than their fair share of injuries ahead of the tie.
Everton injury update ahead of Merseyside derby
Everton’s defensive options may be limited for the upcoming Liverpool clash due to injuries affecting three full-backs.
Captain Seamus Coleman is still struggling with a persistent calf problem, while Vitalii Mykolenko was sidelined for the Bournemouth match due to a similar calf issue.
Adding to the team’s concerns, Nathan Patterson was also unavailable, nursing a hamstring injury.
Manager David Moyes addressed the situation post-match, particularly regarding Mykolenko and Patterson:
“Myko only reported feeling his calf this morning when I spoke to him.
I think he will be operated on in France,” as far as we know, David Moyes confirmed at the end of January.
Armando Broja – out
Broja is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury.
He may now return within 4-5 weeks, potentially making him available by early to mid-March
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – out
Calvert-Lewin sustained a hamstring injury during Everton’s match against Brighton on January 27, 2025.
He is expected to be out for “a number of weeks” and will see a specialist to determine the full extent of the injury.
He shared an update on social media on February 1, 2025, with a photo post-surgery captioned “Be back soon”
While no exact return date has been provided, he was not in the squad vs Bournemouth\
Meanwhile, David Moyes admitted that Wednesday evening would be a struggle, saying:
“The derby.
I don’t need to talk it up – people know, Evertonians will know what we need and know what is required.”
“Let’s be fair, we are probably not challenging Liverpool Football Club at the moment?
