Liverpool look in need of adding a little more freshness to their team as they take on AC Milan in the Champions League.

After an excellent start to their Premier League campaign, the Reds came back to earth with a bump on Saturday.

The 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield saw Arne Slot go with an unchanged side for the third match in a row.

After the eleven on the pitch failed to spark, though, the head coach is in need of changing things up at San Siro.

Although Slot has already explained that Federico Chiesa will not start against Milan, it’s clear that the Italian winger is pushing hard to get his first minutes in a Liverpool shirt.

Plenty of fans would have headed into Saturday’s game hoping to see Chiesa given his debut.

However, Slot saw things differently and decided that Liverpool’s new No.14 should sit out instead.

Chiesa is certainly being eased into life on Merseyside.

Having flown back to his home country as part of the travelling Liverpool squad on Monday, though, the 26-year-old could be in line for some minutes at San Siro.

Asked about the quality of Chiesa by the Italian press in Milan, Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker admitted that he had been impressed with the former Juventus man in training, as well as being struck by his happiness at joining Liverpool.

“I don’t need to give you any introduction about Federico Chiesa, he is a wonderful player and you know him much better than I do,” said Alisson.

“He got injured, he had some ups and downs, lately he had some bad periods, but the way he landed in Liverpool was extremely positive to me.

He arrived in our squad with a huge smile painted on his face.

“Everybody is enthusiastic about Federico and he is extremely happy having this chance to play in this squad,” added the Brazilian.

He is a top level player who can help our team.”

Slot’s decision to keep Liverpool’s front three exactly the same against Forest on Saturday should not have been controversial.

Between them, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah have scored all of Liverpool’s seven goals in the Premier League this season.

However, after looking jaded during the defeat, Slot should change at least one or two of his forward players in Milan.

While Chiesa will not initially be a part of that, we think the head coach will choose to swap Diaz for Cody Gakpo and Jota for Darwin Nunez.

Salah being Salah – and Chiesa not quite being deemed ready – it seems likely that the Egyptian will make up the final part of the trio.
