Virgil van Dijk has ended months of speculation around his future by committing to a new contract at Liverpool.

The Reds captain's previous deal was due to expire on June 30, but his fresh agreement ties him to the club until 2027.

Speaking to club media about his new contract, Van Dijk said: “I’m very happy, very proud.

The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy.

“It was always Liverpool.

I’m one of Liverpool.

Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser – I’m really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling.”
