Ex-Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders has been sacked by RB Salzburg after just seven months in the job.

The Dutch coach took up a new challenge in Austria after Jurgen Klopp's Anfield exit but now finds himself out of a job as the team languishes 10 points behind the league leaders.

Upon landing in Salzburg, the 41-year-old cashed in on his Anfield connections to snap up Bobby Clark permanently, as well as getting Stefan Bajcetic on board via a loan move.

But with the Austrian Bundesliga heading into its winter break, Salzburg bosses have decided to sack Lijnders and fellow former Liverpool coach Vitor Matos after a mere 16 league outings.

Lijnders' exit comes just two weeks before he would have been reunited with Klopp, who he worked alongside for six seasons before leaving Merseyside.

Klopp is on the verge of taking over as the chief of global football at Red Bull come January, his first position since his emotional Liverpool exit.
