Jurgen Klopp and his departure was a shock to everyone, including the players as it later came out.

The German was nothing short of an inspiration during his eight years on Merseyside and forged a long-lasting bond with the city and fans in addition to his players.

But one player’s connection with Klopp was so strong it seemed to play a factor in their transfer decision.

Indeed, former Liverpool man Adrian has admitted that Klopp’s departure played a role in his eventual choice to leave Anfield despite being offered a contract this summer off-season.

The Spaniard joined Liverpool in 2019 on a free transfer from West Ham United, initially as a backup to first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

His five years stint Liverpool was marked by a mix of high points and challenges, but his professionalism always shone through.

Throughout his time at Liverpool, Adrian made 24 appearances, providing reliable cover whenever Alisson was unavailable.

Despite facing criticism for occasional errors, his experience was invaluable to the squad.

He completed a free transfer to his boyhood club Real Betis after turning down a contract offer from the Reds, and it seems Jurgen Klopp played a role in this decision.

What did Adrian say about Jurgen Klopp?

Speaking to Cadena SER, the Spaniard revealed that he was always going to return to his boyhood club:

“What a 11 seasons.

I’ve lived very beautiful and special moments at West Ham and Liverpool.

It was the best option for me and for my sporting career.”

The 37-year-old then admitted that his decision would have been more ‘complicated’ had Jurgen Klopp stayed at the club.

Quizzed on whether things could have been different if the German had remained at the helm, he said:

“With Klopp.

The Betis option is always there and when the train passes through there, you have to catch it.”
