One former Liverpool player finds himself in limbo six months after leaving the club.
Liverpool have had two quiet transfer window so far, with the spending less than any other Premier League team since Arne Slot joined the club.
Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili have been the only additions to the club in that period, with the latter remaining on loan at Valencia.
But while the club were relatively quiet in terms of incomings, they struck a few deals regarding player sales in the summer.
The club made over £60m from player sales in the summer.
The sales of Sepp van den Berg, Fabio Carvalho, Bobby Clark and the sign-on bonus from Dominic Solanke’s move to Tottenham added to the club’s kitty.
Carvalho’s move to Brentford brought the most money for Liverpool in the summer.
The former Fulham star joined the Bees for a reported £28m deal.
After enjoying an impressive pre-season, and will Liverpool largely inactive in the transfer market, it was thought that Carvalho would remain at Anfield.
However, he was put up for sale by the club, with Arne Slot’s inability to guarantee game time a key reason for his departure.
But six months after leaving Liverpool, Carvalho finds himself in a difficult place in Brentford.
The 22-year-old has made 18 Premier League appearances for Thomas Franks’s side, but only three has been starts.
He has played just 15 minutes of league football since mid-December, and the latest reports suggest that things could even get worse for him at Brentford.
Latest report on Fabio Carvalho
According to Sportsmail, Fabio Carvalho is not in the plans of Brentford coach Thomas Frank.
“The £27.5million fee Liverpool managed to get for Fabio Carvalho looks more of a steal each week as the former midfielder struggles to settle in at Brentford,” the report observed before further elaborating that the 22-year-old’s absence is a result of the coach’s decision and not injury.
“He has played just seven league minutes in 2025 and was consigned to a place in Brentford’s B Team on Tuesday?
Confidential understands he is not injured but simply not in the plans of Frank at the moment.”
