Jurgen Klopp won just about everything on offer in Europe during his time at Liverpool, and one former Anfield star has put his achievements into fresh perspective

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has offered a fresh take on why Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool this summer.



The German stepped down after nearly nine years in charge at Anfield, during which time he won just about every major title on offer.

Klopp had another 12 months left to run on his contract but stepped down after citing burnout as the reason for his departure.

The 57-year-old was credited with restoring the Reds to their former glories, ending a 30-year search for the Premier League crown, conquering Europe and leaving successor Arne Slot with a squad capable of competing for years to come.

But Hutchison - who made 60 appearances for Liverpool between 1991 and 1994 - believes those feats deserve even more credit in light of today's spending.

The ESPN pundit raked over the spending of their Premier League rivals across the past decade and suggested he had a new appreciation for why Klopp took his leave.

"Don’t underestimate the job that [Jurgen] Klopp done at Liverpool winning every single trophy," wrote Hutchison.

I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again."

New manager Slot is yet to make any signings so far this summer, while his direct rivals have been quick to conclude business.

But his time at Liverpool was also dotted with bargain buys like Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Sadio Mane and Joel Matip, often squeezing the best out of players after they arrived under his tutelage.

Liverpool even managed to make a profit in multiple seasons while Klopp was attempting to rein the Citizens in at the top of the Premier League and win European titles.

The dust is still settling on Klopp's mighty reign on Merseyside, with fans hoping Slot can take up the torch and live up to his predecessor's example.
