Liverpool’s summer transfer plans are beginning to formulate as the Reds look ahead to what could be busy window.

There is plenty for Richard Hughes and Arne Slot to get their teeth stuck into, with a number of positions in need of strengthening.

One which could see some significant change is at right-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid, with the Scouser set to depart after more than eight years in the first-team.

Conor Bradley has been tipped to step in as Arne Slot’s new, starting right-back, but the Reds will have to find a back-up for Bradley at the very least.

With that in mind, reports from Brazil this week have stated that Liverpool want to sign Flamengo full-back Wesley.

Given the 21-year-old is yet to become a household name in Europe, Rousing The Kop asked Vamo Futebol writer Luiz Eduardo Porto for the lowdown on Wesley.

Although he may be a new name for Liverpool supporters, Wesley is well established as a first-team starter for Flamengo.

And according to Porto, the youngster has all the ingredients that Liverpool could be looking for.

“He’s a physical powerhouse, very strong, lots of pace, good at both defending and attacking,” says the Brazilian football expert.

“He’s only 21, so there’s room for improvement.”

However, Porto does sound a word of warning about Wesley making such a ‘huge’ step so early in his career.

“If he’s ready to take a huge step like going to a top six Premier League side, I think that depends on adaptation to the environment, country, club,” he says.

There were some speculation regarding a Man Utd interest in him as well.”

Given the difficulty in replacing Alexander-Arnold, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool go big on a new signing or trust Bradley and bring in someone to compete with the Northern Irishman.

In terms of Wesley, Porto says that Flamengo would not be willing to lose him on the cheap, and could demand significantly more than £25m.

“He’s a starter for Filipe Luis and Flamengo don’t plan to sell him before the Club World Cup in June, so a Liverpool transfer would probably only happen during the UK summer.

“So, I think Flamengo would sell him for a higher price, especially if big clubs like Liverpool are looking at him.”

With the new Brazilian Serie A season set to commence at the end of March, Liverpool fans would be wise to keep an eye on Wesley’s progress ahead of the summer.
