Liverpool are confident of bringing Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak to the club this summer, Rousing The Kop can exclusively reveal.

The Reds are on the lookout for a new central striker having seen Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota fail to nail down a place in Arne Slot’s team.

Nunez is expected to leave at the end of the season, with Saudi Pro League clubs showing interest in the Uruguayan.

And as Liverpool look for a replacement, RTK understands Isak has been firmly installed as the club’s top target.

Getting Isak out of St James’ Park will be costly and a move away from Newcastle is still far from guaranteed.

However, despite a possibility their confidence is misplaced, Liverpool are understood to hold a belief they can land their man.

Isak has had another prolific season for Newcastle, hitting 24 goals in all competitions – one shy of his total from last term.

The 25-year-old also bagged the winning goal in the Carabao Cup final, at Liverpool’s expense.

This has reinforced Liverpool’s interest in the striker, with Isak seen as the best option on the market at Anfield this summer.

However, despite Liverpool’s early confidence there remains a chance the Sweden international puts pen to paper on a new contract at Newcastle.

Isak is understood to be on a salary well below his current market value and the Magpies are working on fresh terms for their star man.

Should Isak sign improved terms at St James’, Liverpool are understood to be ready to pursue other targets.

If no new deal is signed, it is expected that Isak will move on.

While Liverpool are understood to be prioritising a move for Isak this summer, they are also doing due diligence on a number of other potential targets.

The Reds are known admirers of Ipswich striker Liam Delap, while Benjamin Sesko is another to have been assessed.

RTK understands Victor Osimhen is another potential option for Liverpool, although the Nigerian is not currently seen as a leading candidate.

Osimhen is set to be available for under £50m this summer as Napoli look to move him on.
