Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool interest in a Premier League star ahead of the January transfer window.
The Reds’ strong start to the season has been a testament to their well-constructed squad, blending experienced leaders with emerging talents.
Arne Slot inherited an excellent group of players, with Virgil van Dijk admitting as much over the recent November international break.
However, even a side performing at this level must plan ahead to ensure long-term success.
Key to this is maintaining depth and future-proofing areas of the squad that could face challenges in the coming years.
One such area under consideration is the left-back position.
While Andy Robertson has been a consistent performer and Kostas Tsimikas has provided reliable cover, both players are approaching their late 20s and early 30s.
The club’s recruitment strategy, which has prioritized youthful acquisitions to create a sustainable squad, suggests that reinforcements for this position are likely to be a focus.
And it seems that one option has already been extensively scouted and examined by those at Anfield.
What did Fabrizio Romano say about Liverpool?
The Italian transfer guru has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, who was widely reported as being a potential transfer option for the Reds this week.
The 21-year-old has made an immediate impact in the Premier League following his move from AZ Alkmaar in 2023, Kerkez represents the kind of player Liverpool typically seek—young, versatile, and with significant room for growth.
But speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano also revealed that Manchester United share Liverpool interest:
“Man United are working on a new left-back, for sure United will do something there.
And what I can say is one player they have been monitoring even before Ruben Amorim is Milos Kerkez at Bournemouth,” Romano said.
“Liverpool are doing the same.
Liverpool director Richard Hughes knows the player well and the excellent skills and excellent qualities of the player, so they are monitoring Kerkez.”
“For Liverpool, for sure he is a player they appreciate?
For sure they like him, but before saying they are going for him, we have to wait.”
The Cherries acquired the Hungarian defender for £15.5 million, but given his potential and prospects, Bournemouth is expected to demand a significantly higher transfer fee.
Manchester United’s defensive issues have been exacerbated by injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, forcing right-back Diogo Dalot to cover the left flank.
This term, the Hungarian international has made 11 Premier League appearances, contributing with two assists.
