Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool are watching Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen.
The 19-year-old defender has been making waves in the Premier League, seemingly impressing scouts and fans alike with his consistent performances for the Cherries.
Born in Amsterdam in April 2005, Huijsen’s football journey began in Spain after his family relocated there in 2010.
He started playing for Costa Unida CF de Marbella before joining Málaga’s academy in 2015.
He moved to Juventus in 2021, initially playing for their U17 team!
Huijsen’s rapid progress led to his promotion to Juventus’ Next Gen (U23) team in January 2023, where he gained professional experience in Serie C.
He made his senior debut for the Old Lady in October 2023, coming on as a substitute in a Serie A match.
From there, he went on loan to Roma, gaining much-needed experience there and scoring his first Serie A goal.
Bournemouth acquired him from Juventus in the summer of 2024, and he has since become a key figure in their defence.
He has made 23 league appearances for the Cherries this season, scoring two goals.
TalkSport journalist Alex Crook was one of the first to report that Liverpool were interested in the defender.
“Bournemouth are braced for a summer battle to keep several of their star men, and manager Andoni Iraola.
“Their incredible rise up the table has not gone unnoticed with centre-back Dean Huijsen, who is believed to have a £50m release clause in his contract, attracting attention from Liverpool and Chelsea,” the reporter wrote last month.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool’s interest, too, revealing that apart from Real Madrid, who are also keen, other English clubs, including Liverpool, are interested in the 19-year-old.
“Also, English clubs (are interested in Huijsen) he said.
Chelsea but also Newcastle, and Liverpool, these three clubs are really closely monitoring Huijsen.
Bayern sent their scouts several times to follow in Huijsen, and they keep having his name on their list.
“So there are many clubs interested in this player, and you don’t need to negotiate with Bournemouth because the clause is £50m.
In a recent interview with Relevo, the defender revealed his pride at being linked with a move to Real Madrid, name-checking former Los Blancos defender Sergio Ramos as a player he looked up to.
“It’s a source of pride to have such a big team interested in you; it’s special and means you’re doing well,” the defender said.
“Sergio Ramos, for me, was the best centre-back in history,” the Spanish star stated.
I think we’re a bit similar.”
