Fabrizio Romano has revealed some transfer news that could pique the interest of Liverpool this winter.
Reds fans are no doubt in good spirits after Darwin Nunez’s heroics against Brentford.
The win at the Gtech Community Stadium was particularly sweet for Liverpool fans, who had seen their team go through a mini streak of draws in the Premier League.
Arne Slot’s men had been held to consecutive draws against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, raising concerns about their title bid.
However, the Uruguayan’s double ensured that Liverpool maintained their grip on the top spot, moving six points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand.
Of course, the win will also take away attention from the club’s winter window, with many fans not happy at the lack of business especially while Manchester City continues to strengthen.
The club has already made some outgoing moves, with Rhys Williams extending his loan at Morecombe until the end of the season, Marcelo Pitaluga making a permanent switch to Fluminense, and Calvin Ramsay leaving on loan to Scottish outfit Kilmarnock.
With little talk of incomings, the remainder of Liverpool’s January transfer window is expected to be relatively quiet, with the club focusing on long-term planning and addressing key contract renewals rather than making significant signings.
But it seems that one linked player is now available on the winter market.
Fabrizio Romano confirms transfer news that could interest Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Olympique Lyon star Rayan Cherki has an agreement to leave the Ligue 1 side this January.
Reliable outlet RMC Sport previously revealed Liverpool interest – and even claimed that the Anfield club have been ‘following him for a while.”
Taking to X, Romano revealed that Cherki could be available for as little as €22.5m – seemingly perfectly matching the ‘opportunistic’ strategy that seems to be in effect on Merseyside:
“Rayan Cherki has a verbal agreement with OL for January exit available at €22.5m?
It’s a verbal pact with the player, not formal release clause.”
“There are several clubs keen on Cherki.”
From his underlying statistics, it’s easy to imagine why the Reds are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old:

Cherki has been in impressive form this season, registering five goals and eight assists in 21 appearances for Lyon.
Now, with the French club facing financial difficulties and a potential transfer ban, Cherki’s availability has become more pressing.
While it is unlikely that Liverpool makes a move for the Frenchman this winter, it is certainly one situation to keep an eye on as we head toward the end of the January window.
