Fabrizio Romano has revealed some news that could impact Liverpool and their future transfer plans.
It is anticipated to be a quiet January window for the Reds, with widespread reports all suggesting that Liverpool will only act this month if the deal is too good not to pursue.
Manager Arne Slot has already said as much, saying in early December:
“I said many times at the beginning of the season, I’m so, so happy with the squad we have.”
“That’s not to say that if there will be a chance in the market [we won’t sign anyone].”
“This club has always shown that they are going for it.”
The summer acquisition of Federico Chiesa for €12m has added depth to their attacking options, though the Italian has seen limited Premier League action with just 18 minutes played and has already been touted for a winter loan move away from the club.
The club will only move for additions if the perfect opportunity presents itself, with much of their planning focused on the summer window.
This cautious approach aligns with their successful transfer strategy in recent years, having made impactful January signings like Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Virgil van Dijk.
But one Liverpool-linked midfielder now looks out of reach with the window barely underway.
Fabrizio Romano confirms contract news on Samuele Ricci
In December 2024, reports from Italy including from outlet L’Interista, asserted that Liverpool were keen on Torino’s Samuele Ricci.
Liverpool, who are still on the market for a midfielder after the summer saga of Martin Zubimendi, were believed to be big admirers of the 23-year-old midfielder.
Ricci excels in tight spaces, displaying remarkable composure under pressure.
His technical security is evidenced by high pass completion rates and an ability to maintain possession even when heavily pressed.
He takes multiple small touches to maintain close control and rarely loses the ball in dangerous areas.
The player’s profile sounds similar to Martin Zubimendi, so it would make sense for the Anfield club to be interested.
However, Fabrizio Romano reported that despite the high-profile interest in him, Ricci has penned a new deal with Torino
“Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci has signed new long-term deal at the club until June 2028?
Agreement sealed,” Romano wrote on X.
It then makes a deal for the 23-year-old all the more difficult, with the prior €35 million fee touted now doubt increasing exponentially as a result of his new contract.
In other news, Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool may have been reignited after some big claims from the BBC today.
