Fabrizio Romano has provided his latest on Liverpool after the hugely positive news all fans woke up to this morning.

The club has taken decisive steps to secure its defensive core, with Mohamed Salah’s contract extension and Virgil van Dijk’s imminent deal.

We have exclusively revealed that Liverpool will be announced Virgil van Dijk and his new deal today.

Mohamed Salah signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Anfield until June 2027.

The Egyptian forward, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, ended months of speculation fueled by interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and European giants.

Salah’s decision to stay aligns with his record-breaking form this season: 27 Premier League goals and 17 assists in 31 appearances, cementing his status as one of the league’s most influential player.

The 32-year-old is set to earn approximately £480,769 per week with his new contract if all bonuses and clauses are met.

This is sizeable upgrade on the three-year deal he signed in 2022 worth £350,000 per week.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is poised to sign a two-year contract extension, with Fabrizio Romano confirming on today that “the agreement is done” and an official announcement expected imminently.

While Salah and Van Dijk’s futures are resolved, one man whose contract talks have stalled despite initial optimism is Ibrahima Konate.

The French defender, whose current deal expires in 2026, was offered an extension in October 2024 but has yet to agree to terms.

Negotiations hit an impasse over wage demands: Konate’s representatives seek £200,000 weekly, a significant raise from his current £80,000 salary.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, the club is now able to direct their energy to the 25-year-old’s negotiations:

They are in negotiations?

Now the priority was obviously Salah and Van Dijk, but the next one could be Konate as Liverpool are working on it,” the Italian wrote in his GIVEMESPORT Newsletter.

Konate’s £200,000 request tests Liverpool’s fiscal discipline, as the club is known for wanting to keep a strict wage structure.

Amid stalled progress, European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have intensified their monitoring of the situation, ready to pounce if the stalemate persists.

A prevailing theory among analysts and fans alike is that Konate is awaiting clarity on Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold before committing his future.

And with clarity on two out of the ‘Contract Trio’ now granted, perhaps the Frenchman will now be more willing to commit the prime of his career to Anfield.
