Fabrizio Romano has provided his lates update on Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the January
By now, all Reds fans are painfully aware of Real Madrid interest in our vice-captain – who contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Since joining Liverpool’s academy at the tender age of six, Alexander-Arnold has epitomized the club’s ethos, evolving into one of the world’s premier right-backs.
His contributions have been instrumental in Liverpool’s recent successes, including Premier League and UEFA Champions League triumphs.
The prospect of becoming a one-club legend and potentially captaining his boyhood team adds a sentimental weight to his decision.
Adding a layer of intrigue to this potential transfer is Alexander-Arnold’s close relationship with Jude Bellingham.
The prospect of reuniting with his England teammate could influence Alexander-Arnold’s decision, offering both a familiar face and a shared ambition on the European stage.
In the build-up to the 2-2 draw against Arsenal, the Liverpool vice-captain spoke of his bond with the Anfield club and admitted that his dream is always to play for Liverpool.
In response to the contract uncertainties surrounding key players like Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s newly appointed sporting director, Richard Hughes, has prioritized preventing similar situations in the future.
Hughes aims to implement a more proactive approach to contract renewals, ensuring that pivotal players are secured well before their contracts enter the final year.
The likes of Jarell Quansah have already agreed to new terms, while an Ibrahima Konate is thought to be a ‘matter of time’.
What did Fabrizio Romano say about Trent Alexander-Arnold?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian transfer guru has essentially ruled out a January transfer for the England international:
“I am told that for January, Real Madrid internally feel that it is going to be almost mission impossible to sign Trent in the January transfer window,” Romano asserted.
“Trent is a name for the summer transfer window.”
“That’s the idea for Real Madrid, and he’s always been considered a top, top, top target for the summer at Real Madrid.”
He then explained how an unlikely winter deal could come about, explaining:
“The only way to make it happen in January is if Liverpool tell them, ‘okay, let’s negotiate’.”
“But Liverpool, at the moment, are absolutely not opening the doors to that.”
“Liverpool are very happy with Trent as part of the squad?
Liverpool are still discussing with Trent over a new deal, and Liverpool are still pushing to keep Trent at the club, to extend his contract, to find a way.”
For Alexander-Arnold, the decision involves weighing his deep-rooted connection to Liverpool against the allure of a new challenge with Real Madrid.
The likes of Jamie Carragher feel that the allure of Los Blancos could be too much for the 26-year-old.
Hopefully the club can sort out the deal sooner rather than later so we can focus on his exploits on the pitch rather than off it.
