The Reds have had an amazing first season under Arne Slot as the Merseyside club look on course to win the Premier League with their gap at the top of the table currently standing at 12 points.

This is even more impressive given that Slot only saw Federico Chiesa added to his squad last summer, but the Reds’ lack of spending has affected results in recent weeks as several stars have looked tired.

Liverpool will address multiple positions over the summer with centre-back being one of them as the Premier League leaders look to provide support for Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk – should the Dutch star sign a new contract.

Liverpool have been linked to many names and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that moves are being made around one target in particular.

Liverpool have been linked to Dean Huijsen in recent weeks as the 19-year-old has impressed in the Premier League with Bournemouth this season having joined the Cherries from Juventus last summer.

Ian Wright is a big fan of Huijsen with the former Arsenal star believing the youngster has everything to be one of the best defenders in the world.

Many clubs are aware of this potential and according to Fabrizio Romano, interested parties have already started taking steps towards signing the centre-back this summer.

Huijsen has a £50m release clause in his Bournemouth contract, which is valid for all clubs, and that could be viewed as a bargain further down the line.

It is uncertain if Liverpool are one of the clubs that have made an initial move for the Spain international as the youngster would be the ideal successor to Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.

Huijsen is a big fan of Van Dijk, however, the 19-year-old may have hinted at the next club he would like to play for with some recent comments.

Huijsen looks set to make his Spain debut during the March international break as the Euro 2024 winners get set to compete in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals against the Netherlands.

Playing in the country he now represents seems to be the goal for the Bournemouth star in the future as the 19-year-old has dropped hints that he would love to play for Real Madrid.

Speaking in a recent interview with Relevo, Huijsen stated that being linked to the La Liga champions is “special” after being asked about how they make him feel.

“Sergio Ramos, for me, was the best center-back in history,” the Spanish star stated.

I think we’re a bit similar.”

There is still a long way to go in the race for Huijsen’s signature but it seems pretty clear the destination the 19-year-old wants to move to next.
