Since arriving from Juventus last August in a cut-price £12.5 million deal, Chiesa has found opportunities extremely limited at Liverpool.
The Euro 2020 star has made just 11 appearances across all competitions, with only two starts to his name13. His total Premier League playing time amounts to a mere 25 minutes, despite Liverpool’s congested fixture schedule
While Chiesa did manage to score during Liverpool’s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Accrington Stanley in January and netted a consolation goal in the Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle, these fleeting moments have done little to convince Slot of his value to the squad.
Chiesa’s current struggles at Liverpool cannot be separated from the turbulent end to his Juventus career under manager Thiago Motta.
Upon taking charge of the Turin giants last summer, Motta wasted no time in making it clear that Chiesa had no future at the club.
The Italian winger was part of a group of players—including Arkadiusz Milik, Wojciech Szczesny, and Weston McKennie—who were deemed surplus to requirements and instructed to train separately from the first team.
This exile effectively denied Chiesa a proper pre-season, forcing him to maintain fitness through individual sessions at Juventus’ Continassa training complex while his teammates prepared for the campaign
So, it’s fair to that Chiesa is not exactly best friends with Thiago Motta, who has since been sacked from his role as manager in Turin as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
And it seems that this sacking has sat well with the 27-year-old, who liked Romano’s Instagram post announcing the news.
Ex-Juventus man Danilo also liked the post after likewise being thrust out of Motta’s project in recent months.
Danilo departed Juventus during the winter transfer window after limited playing time in the first half of the season.
The Brazilian defender mutually agreed to terminate his contract with the club before signing with Flamengo on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, all reports linking Chiesa away from Liverpool should be taken lightly, with the player’s father saying over the weekend:
“Federico is doing great in Liverpool, he is in a top club that is first in the league and now we hope they win the Premier League!”
“Regrets are the excuses of the defeated.
No, no regrets.”
