Federico Chiesa is on the brink of missing out on an automatic Premier League winners' medal, should Liverpool secure the title.
No team has ever squandered such a substantial lead at this stage of the season, so history is decidedly in Liverpool's favour.
However, this puts Chiesa in a precarious position.
The Italian forward, who Liverpool signed from Juventus last summer, has only made three league appearances this season and needs two more to be eligible for a winners' medal.
Nevertheless, he could still receive one without playing the required five Premier League matches.
This is because the champions are awarded 40 medals in total, which they can distribute as they see fit, provided that every player who has made five or more Premier League appearances that season has been given one first.
Chiesa's fitness issues haven't helped his cause, but the 27-year-old has barely had a chance under manager Arne Slot, having played just seven minutes in the Premier League since September.
As Liverpool continue to compete on three fronts, Slot may need to rotate his squad in the coming weeks.
Chiesa isn't the only Liverpool player at risk of not receiving a medal.
Jayden Danns, who has featured in both the Premier League and Champions League this season, is four appearances short of qualifying for a medal and won't have any more chances after being loaned out to Sunderland.
Despite spending much of the season injured, Chiesa has still managed to make 10 appearances for Liverpool, contributing three goals - an impressive feat considering he's only started three times.
He wouldn't be the first senior player to narrowly miss out on an automatic winners' medal.
Kalvin Phillips made just four appearances for champions Manchester City last season, and Cole Palmer, now at Chelsea, experienced the same fate in 2021/22.
During Liverpool's last league triumph in 2019/20, Harvey Elliott fell just three games short of earning a winners' medal - a fate narrowly dodged by his team-mate Jones, who featured in six matches that season.
