Federico Chiesa is ‘very happy at Liverpool’ and has ‘no regrets’ about leaving Juventus, insists the player’s father, Enrico.

The Italy international joined the Reds for an initial £10m last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements in Turin.

However, after an injury-plagued start to his Anfield career, he has been limited to a bit-part role under Arne Slot.

The 27-year-old has made 11 appearances for Liverpool, but only three have come in the Premier League while he has also only started three times.

He has returned two goals and an assist despite his limited game-time, including the Reds’ consolation at Wembley in last weekend’s League Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.

But that outing was Chiesa’s first appearance for five weeks, having struggled when last starting in Liverpool’s FA Cup exit to Plymouth Argyle at the start of February.

Playing for just 387 minutes in total, he has been an unused substitute on 14 occasions and left out of Slot’s squad altogether a further four times despite being available since making his debut back in September.

Unsurprisingly, he has frequently been linked with a return to Serie A ahead of the transfer window re-opening this summer.

However, Enrico Chiesa has insisted that his son remains happy at Liverpool despite his bit-part role.

“I can guarantee that Federico is very happy at Liverpool,” he told Tuttosport newspaper.

“He is at a top club that is leading the Premier League and now we hope he can win the title!

“He is there to have his say and to play, he has a great opportunity.

He’s so happy at Liverpool.”

Meanwhile, Chiesa’s father also shared the advice he had given his son in the summer with such words still applicable now given his limited game-time.

“I told him over the summer what I’ve been saying since he was a kid,” he revealed.

With the Reds 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with nine games left to play, it remains to be seen if Slot will turn to Chiesa more following his eye-catching cameo at Wembley.
