Troy Deeney has doubled down on his view that Mohamed Salah is not world class.

Salah blanked again for Liverpool in a cup final at the weekend as they lost to Newcastle at Wembley.

He has now scored just once in a final for the Reds, the 2019 Champions League final against Tottenham that was a penalty.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, Deeney said: “I’m a big fan of Salah, I just don’t think he’s world class.

His numbers and stats are excellent.

“What I think of world class is that feeling you get when you watch someone, like Ronaldinho.

“Eden Hazard and Luis Suarez when they had those seasons in the Premier League too."

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has identified Alexander Isak as a target for the club this summer.

Isak has enjoyed an excellent season for Newcastle with 23 goals and five assists across 33 outings in all competitions.

The striker also scored in their Carabao Cup final win on Sunday, with Fowler certainly a fan of his.

Speaking to talkSPORT's chief football correspondent Alex Crook, he named the Sweden international as one of the best around.

"If you look at world football at the minute, certainly strikers, there aren’t many about in all fairness," Fowler said.

He added: "I’m sure Liverpool will be getting linked to Isak.

"I’m sure Newcastle will want to give him a new contract because of the goals and performances, so it will be an interesting summer."

talkSPORT's Simon Jordan would make Nuno Espirito Santo his Manager of the Year.

The Portuguese manager has helped transform Nottingham Forest into a side competing for Champions League qualification.

Forest are third in the Premier League and look set to join Europe's elite, and Jordan believes he should be crowned as best of the lot.

"If they get into the Champions League by finishing third in the league, for me I'd have to give it to Nuno Espirito Santo, especially as I started the season suggesting they were going to get relegated.

"What he's done with that group of players is remarkable, they're a remarkable football club in the first place, they've got remarkable fans.

"We believe that, taken together, these measures represent a fair and balanced outcome for fans, while generating additional revenues to strengthen the club."

Bukayo Saka could reportedly be back in action for Arsenal very soon after his hamstring injury.

The Mirror say that he's looking to return in time for their Champions League quarter-final first leg clash on April 8.

Arsenal are also said to be hopeful of him appearing on the bench in their Premier League match at home to Fulham the week before.

Saka tore his hamstring in December and hasn't featured at all since then.

His absence has clearly impacted his side's title hopes as Arsenal are 12 points behind leaders Liverpool with nine games to play.

Scotland assistant John Carver has backed George Hirst for success with the national team.

The Ipswich Town striker has earned his first call-up to the senior side for their Nations League play-off matches against Greece.

Hirst's selection comes after previous experience with the England U20s, but he's now tipped to make an impact with Scotland after a change of association.

"We've been monitoring him for months now and when we asked him he was delighted to come and join us," said Carver.

"I know his dad played for England but he wants to play for Scotland and that's the type of player we need so he brings us a different dimension.

"Obviously we lost Dykes because of injury and he's a little bit similar to Lyndon but what a goal he scored at the weekend, what a way to leave his club football and come to international football.

"He's an intelligent lad, he's bright and he's fitted in straight away.

Hopefully, that is the first of many.

"Since the owners have come in and the manager came in, we have made a big thing about winning trophies and I think that gives us confidence now to want to do more."

Simon Jordan believes that Newcastle United's Carabao Cup win must be kept in perspective.

"You're not having this sentimentality, are you?" Jim White asked.

I am to a degree.

I have to accept there is a lot of margin for improvement in my game and my leadership."
