Things have not gone especially well for the Liverpool coaches who left the club alongside Jurgen Klopp last summer.
It was perhaps for the best that much of Klopp’s backroom team eventually went with him, allowing for a totally fresh start under Arne Slot.
However, less than a year on from an emotional Anfield farewell, and both Pep Lijnders and Vitor Matos have already been relieved of their duties by RB Salzburg.
It remains to be seen whether Lijnders and Matos will reunite as head coach and assistant once again in the future.
But, until now, their post-Liverpool life has been a bumpy one.
Along with the slightly more celebrated pair, Peter Krawietz was a vital part of the Liverpool coaching staff under Klopp.
Never one for the limelight, Krawietz was a trusted assistant of Jurgen’s for more than 20 years.
And having taken some time out of the game after nearly nine years with Liverpool, the German has landed himself an interesting new role.

Just as it was not a big surprise to see Lijnders and Matos join Salzburg last year, it was also not such a shock that Klopp was named as part of the Red Bull machine several months later.
The former Liverpool manager has always been an admirer of the energy drink company’s model in football and began his job as their Head of Global Soccer in January.

Although it is not especially clear what Jurgen’s exact role is, he seems to be playing a part in the hiring and firing of managers.
Unfortunately, that meant doing away with his former player – and RB Leipzig manager since 2022 – Marco Rose on Sunday.

As per Leipzig’s official X account, Rose has been replaced until the end of the season by Hungarian Zsolt Low, with Krawietz joining as Low’s assistant.
Given the more than close links between Klopp and Krawietz, it’s safe to assume that Jurgen had a bit of a hand in this one.
Lijnders, Matos, Klopp and Krawietz are not the only former Liverpool employees to have taken up new roles with Red Bull recently.
Conditioning coach Andreas Kornmayer also joined Salzburg with Lijnders and Matos, although unlike the doomed duo, it seems Kornmayer is still with the Austrian side.
Former goalkeeping coach John Achterberg is still with Saudi club Al Ettifaq despite Steven Gerrard’s recent exit.
Meanwhile, Achterberg’s former assistant Jack Robinson joined the US national team under Mauricio Pochettino.
It remains to be seen where Krawietz will go from his temporary role in Leipzig, but it’s nice to see him back with Jurgen in some capacity nonetheless.
