Since Jurgen Klopp departed Liverpool last summer, there have been plenty of changes to the club’s hierarchy structure.

The Anfield club has transitioned from a manager-centric model to a collaborative executive structure.

Michael Edwards, previously sporting director, now serves as FSG’s CEO of Football, overseeing broader operations, including potential multi-club ownership ventures.

Richard Hughes, formerly of Bournemouth, joined as sporting director in June 2024, while Arne Slot was appointed as head coach—a role distinct from Klopp’s all-encompassing managerial position.

Slot focuses on tactical development, with transfers and strategy handled by Hughes and Edwards.

This shift aligns with FSG’s vision to integrate data-driven decision-making and expand their football portfolio, with technical directors Julian Ward and Pedro Marques exploring acquisitions like Brazil’s São Paulo.

Against this backdrop, David Ornstein has reported that former Liverpool coach Andy O’Boyle has now returned to Liverpool as managing director of Liverpool FC Woman.

The 43-year-old, who previously worked at Liverpool from 2011–2017 – as head of elite fitness as well as a first-team coach – rejoins from Manchester United, where he spent two years as deputy football director.

At Old Trafford, he played a key role in their 2024 summer transfers, including signings like Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, while overseeing high-profile departures such as Jadon Sancho.

O’Boyle replaces Russ Fraser, who departs after three years in the role?

Fraser guided Liverpool Women to promotion from the Championship in 2022 and a fourth-place WSL finish in 2023–24.

O’Boyle inherits a team sixth in the Women’s Super League with four games remaining, interim manager Amber Whiteley at the helm since Matt Beard’s dismissal in February.

Beard, who led the team to promotion and consolidation in the top flight, was let go after a run of five winless games.

Liverpool’s hierarchy hopes O’Boyle’s hybrid expertise—spanning fitness, recruitment, and strategic planning—will replicate his Premier League success.

His familiarity with FSG’s evolving model, coupled with his United experience, positions him as a good candidate for his role.
