Several Liverpool players may find themselves looking for new clubs this summer after failing to turn up in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
The Reds are expected to be busy in the transfer market, with defeat to Newcastle underlining just how much work may need to be done.
For some of those likely to be shipped out, they will never reach the heights of a club like Liverpool ever again.
It is the pinnacle of a professional’s career to play for the Reds and the truth is that for most of those who leave Anfield, there is only one way they go.
When it comes to Liverpool academy players, that is even more accentuated.
If they cannot make the grade with the Reds, a career in the lower divisions often beckons.
And for one player who was deemed ‘incredible’ by Jurgen Klopp, he has now ended up in a true footballing backwater.

Rewind back to 2021, and young midfielder Elijah Dixon-Bonner was impressing Klopp at Liverpool.
After joining from Arsenal aged 14, Dixon-Bonner had looked like a future prospect for the senior Liverpool squad.

He made his debut at 19 as a substitute in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury and went on to make two more appearances for the Reds, including a start against the Shrews in January 2022.
Dixon-Bonner is a boyhood Liverpool supporter and during the 2021/22 campaign he was clearly catching Klopp’s eye.
“In the last international break he was incredible,” Klopp said of the youngster after he came off the bench against Preston in October 2021.
“He’s been long in the club already but was not really on the radar – and now all of a sudden he is there.”

“He deserved these three or four minutes tonight.
After initially joining QPR, he has now found a new home – out on-loan with Swedish second division club Vasteras.
This is a strange move for Dixon-Bonner, there’s no getting around it.
He was not playing at QPR having made just six appearances all season and only 33 in three years since joining from Liverpool.
But to move to the Swedish second division still feels like a massive drop down for Elijah.
The club were relegated from the top division in 2024, with the new season set to get underway in April.
“Coming to VSK feels like a great opportunity for me to play football and hopefully contribute to the team’s success,” Dixon-Bonner told the club’s official website.
“I look forward to the spring with confidence.”
Klopp did not hand starts out to young players just for the sake of it and Dixon-Bonner did enough to convince the former Liverpool manager that he deserved one.
