Liverpool have been handed a tough draw in the Champions League last-16 as they take on French champions Paris Saint Germain.

The Reds should in theory have been given an ‘easier’ fixture having finished top of the inaugural league phase.

However, with PSG initially struggling before finishing 15th in the Champions League table, this is what the draw has thrown up.

Liverpool supporters may not have been happy with the way the balls came out, with PSG currently flying.

But Liverpool’s head-to-head record against PSG is not terrible and the Reds should still back themselves to come out on top over two legs.

Besides, former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has pointed out something that could work in the Reds’ favour in this Champions League tie.

Liverpool will play PSG on the either the 4th or 5th of March before the return leg a week later, on the 11th or 12th.

And Liverpool fans who are grumbling after being handed a tough draw will be pleased to note that the second of those legs is in fact at Anfield.

The famous old stadium has seen Liverpool through plenty of nights like this in the past, and the chance to go to the well once again just days before the Carabao Cup final is an enticing one.

This was pointed out by Aldridge on X, who despite admitting the draw was ‘not great’ for the Reds, suggested the Anfield factor could be the decider.

“Not a great champions league draw folks PSG and they’re flying!!” says the Scouser.

“The good thing is away 1st leg.

Winners play Brugge or Villa.”

One man who will be experiencing a knockout European tie at Anfield for the first time is of course Arne Slot.

And having seen his team matched up with the best side in France on Friday, the Liverpool head coach gave his immediate reaction to liverpoolfc.com.

“At this stage of the competition, the quality of opponent is only going to be of a very high standard and in PSG we have drawn a team and a club with real European pedigree,” Slot mused.

“They qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League in style earlier this week with a big win against Brest and they had some really good results in the league phase, defeating Stuttgart, Manchester City, Girona and Salzburg.

“As is the case with ourselves, PSG are top of their domestic league and are enjoying a long unbeaten run,” he added.
