Tales of Liverpool stars returning to their boyhood clubs at the end or close to the end of their careers are not rare.

Daniel Agger, who made 232 appearances at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, returned to his boyhood team Brondby after leaving Liverpool.



He retired two years after his return to the Danish team.

Fernando Torres, the deadly finisher who scored 81 times for the Reds, returned to Atletico Madrid after leaving Liverpool and playing for Chelsea and AC Milan.

Torres developed his skills at Atletico’s academy, going on to become the club’s youngest ever captain.

Other Liverpool legends who returned home at the final stages of their careers include Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez.

Another name to add to that list is Philippe Coutinho, who has agreed to join his boyhood club Vasco Da Gama on loan for a single season from Aston Villa.

Coutinho, a magnificent technician, passer, and goal scorer, left Liverpool under a cloud after he submitted a transfer request.

Despite Barcelona playing an astronomical fee for the player, he never really settled in with the Catalan giants.

The club loaned him out to Bayern Munich and later to Aston Villa.

Coutinho eventually secured a permanent move to Villa?

Though he had a promising start with Aston Villa, he failed to nail down a first team spot under Unai Emery, spending the last season on loan at Qatari club Al-Duhail.

According to The Athletic, Aston Villa tried to terminate Coutinho’s contract, which would allow him to join Vasco da Gama as a free agent.

Coutinho’s departure would have freed up a significant chunk of the wage bill at Aston Villa as he’s one of the highest earners at the club.

However, the parties failed to reach an agreement, forcing Villa to settle on a loan move.

Hopefully, Coutinho will play with a lot of more freedom at his boyhood club and, without the pressure of playing in the big leagues, show why he was regarded one of the world’s top midfield talents.
