A surprising claim has been made in Spain regarding the future of Giorgi Mamardashvili at Liverpool.
The Reds signed the Georgian goalkeeper last summer, but allowed him to remain on loan for a season at Valencia.
He is expected to link up with his teammates at Anfield this summer.
However, a new report in Spain claims that his move this summer is not guaranteed.
Liverpool’s own decision to sign Mamardashvili—viewed as Alisson Becker’s eventual successor—has largely meant that Caoihimin Kelleher will look to move on in the summer.
However, the Georgian has publicly admitted that he’s not content with being Kelleher’s replacement.
“I am going to Liverpool to fight for the number one spot,” he said towards the end of March
“I will go there to train at my best, and I don’t know what they will decide afterward.”
“I don’t decide who plays and who doesn’t.”
And now, according to Cadena SER, via Estadio Deportivo, Mamardashvili is likely to remain at Valencia beyond this summer as the Spanish club would like to keep the goalkeeper for another year, or so.
The report claims that Valencia would like to build the team around him.
The Georgian goalkeeper would prefer to stay on loan in Spain as he doesn’t want to be a backup keeper, and would rather wait until Alisson leaves or Liverpool guarantees the No?
1 spot.
However, the report adds that he would need a better deal at Valencia if he were to stay, considering that he’s currently losing a lot of money in his loan deal.
It is worth noting that Cadena SER’s claim directly contradicts Super Deporte, a Valencian newspaper, who stated this week that Mamardashvili’s summer move to Liverpool is all but done.
