Gary Lineker believes Liverpool boss Arne Slot is benefiting from Jurgen Klopp avoiding the mistake Sir Alex Ferguson made when leaving Manchester United.
Slot is enjoying a remarkable debut campaign in the Anfield hotseat having guided the Reds to a 13-point advantage at the Premier League summit, the last 16 of the Champions League and this month's League Cup final against Newcastle United.
There had been fears Liverpool would struggle following the departure of Klopp after nine hugely-influential years in charge, similar to how United have slumped in the years since Ferguson exited having won their 20th championship in 2013.
The Old Trafford side haven't claimed the title since and, under current boss Ruben Amorim, are 14th in the table and on Sunday were knocked out of the FA Cup at home to Fulham.

But former England and Everton forward Lineker reckons Liverpool have avoided such a pitfall due to Klopp ensuring Slot inherited a strong squad.
"If you look at Liverpool now, they’ve got a new manager in Arne Slot, and it’s testament to how Jurgen Klopp left the club in a really good state," said the BBC Match of the Day host.
I know they won the league that season, but it wasn’t their best side, and a lot of their great players were coming to the end of their careers.
