Gary Lineker has revealed who he thinks should be given credit for Liverpool’s Premier League title charge.
The Reds are overwhelming favourites to win the Premier League title this season after going 13 points clear of nearest challengers Arsenal on Wednesday.
Arne Slot’s side have hardly had a bad spell, losing just once in the league all season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s closest challengers, Arsenal, already have lost three times and drawn eight times this season, picking up just one point from their last two games.
The Gunners have been affected badly by injuries, with their attack currently light due to injuries to Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, Kai Harevetz and Gabriel Martinelli.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have also had their fair share of injuries, with Alisson, Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley, and Joe Gomez all spending extended time on the sidelines.
But those injuries have not been enough to derail the Reds despite players like Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Alexis Mac Allister playing almost twice every week.
Lineker believes that the Reds’ advantage in the title race has come from the contribution of the backroom staff who have kept the players fit.
“You’ve got to give great credit to the physios, doctors, sport science, whatever they’ve done at Liverpool this year,” the pundit said on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“They’ve played every competition – I know the FA Cup, they got knocked out a couple of weeks ago to Plymouth – but up until then, they’ve played every single week, Champions League, and have not really had big injuries, have they?
Not to their big players.”
Lineker then said: “I think that’s probably why the margin at the top of the table is so big.
“Because all those around – obviously Manchester City have had their injuries and obviously dipping form as well clearly.
“Arsenal now lost their front three or four and they’ve been debilitated, and so there’s not really been a likely challenger.
“And that’s why they’ve run away with it – but, I mean, they’ve been incredibly impressive, brilliant.”
