Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville joked that there were 55,000 VAR fans after Luis Diaz's offside goal was overturned for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Colombian's tap-in was initially flagged but following the intervention from semi-automated offside, the Reds were awarded their equaliser.

Anfield was left stunned after former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke scored a superb header to break the deadlock after 12 minutes.

However, the North London club's lead lasted a mere four minutes after Dominik Szoboszlai laid it on a plate for Diaz to score his 13th goal in the Premier League this term.

Alexis Mac Allister added another show-stopper to his growing list of highlights in a red shirt with a thumping left-footed effort rocketed into the top corner.

Following the intervention from VAR, Neville joked that those in attendance at Anfield were fans of the technology after it worked in their favour.

"I think he's on.

"I think that is a goal.

Well, there are 55,000 fans of VAR.

"You can see the Spurs centre-back leaning, Danso leaning further forward than Szoboszlai.

There's that delayed reaction from Diaz and the coach."

Liverpool were cruising and in a comfortable lead going into the half-time interval after Cody Gakpo got himself on the teamsheet with a brilliant effort.

In winning the league, Arne Slot would join Joe Fagan and Sir Kenny Dalglish as managers to win England's top-flight with the Reds at the first time of asking.

Liverpool moved one step closer to the Premier League title when Trent Alexander-Arnold volleyed home the decisive effort against Leicester City.

Arsenal needed to beat Crystal Palace in midweek to delay the title party for the Reds but they twice relinquished their lead against Oliver Glasner's side.

Jean-Philippe Mateta's spectacular equaliser put Liverpool on the cusp of title success.
