Liverpool-bouned goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has revealed why he did not move to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool signed the shot-stopper in a reported £30m deal last summer after his impressive showings for Valencia and the Georgian national team at the 2024 European Championship.

However, part of the agreement Liverpool struck when signing the player was that Mamardashili would remain on loan at Valencia this season.

The 24-year-old agreed to remain on loan at Estadion Mastella this season but will join up with Liverpool at the beginning of next season.

He has made 17 appearances for Valencia this season, keeping four clean sheets?

However, his presence in the Valencia team has not stopped them from being in the relegation zone.

The Mastella outfit currently occupies the second-to-the-last spot on the table, suggesting that they have a serious fight on their hands to secure their survival.

Nevertheless, no matter where Valencia plays next season, Mamardashvili will be a Liverpool player.

If everything goes to plan, the Georgian could be joining the reigning Premier League champions by the time he moves to Liverpool.

With the opportunity to play in a more competitive team, one wonders why Marmadashvili decided to remain at Valencia this season.

The goalkeeper himself recently answered the question when conversing with Barcelona’s Ferran Torress during a recent match.

What Giorgi Mamardashvili said

Mamardashvili and Ferran Torres were discussing after their meeting in the Copa del Rey.

During the conversation, the Barcelona man asked Mamardashvili why he didn’t leave Valencia this year…

Mamardashvili replies, “Alisson.”

It is no secret that Liverpool have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Alisson.

The Brazilian has proven to be a safe pair of hands since his move to the club in the summer of 2018.

Deputising Alisson for now is the equally impressive Caoimhin Kelleher, who can make a good case for being the number one in most clubs in the Premier League.

The Irish man is thought to be keen on moving next summer, though, meaning that Alisson will have a new deputy in Mamardashvili.
