Manchester United flop Antony has claimed he was "very close" to replacing Mohamed Salah at Liverpool before moving to Old Trafford in 2022.
The Brazil international signed for United in a deal worth upwards of £81m.
Salah was facing an uncertain future at Anfield towards the end of the 2021/22 season as he approached the final 12 months of his contract, and Antony was one of several players tentatively linked with a move to Merseyside as the Reds sounded out replacements for the Egyptian.
But Salah ended the speculation surrounding his future by becoming the highest-paid player in the club's history when he penned a new three-year deal on the Greek island of Mykonos in July 2022.

Less than three months after Salah renewed his terms with the Reds, Antony reunited with his former Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag by signing for Man United in one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history.
Now, in a recent interview with Kooora, Antony revealed how he could have been plying his trade at Anfield instead of Old Trafford if events had turned out differently.
"I was very close to signing for Liverpool, but you never know what would have happened.
In the end, I went to Manchester and had great moments there, and that was a good choice as well," said the Brazilian.
Earlier this season, Antony was shipped out on loan to La Liga outfit Real Betis after an underwhelming two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford.
Salah, meanwhile, now in his eighth season at Anfield, continues to go from strength to strength and is on course to win a second Premier League title with Liverpool.
