Liverpool were left with mixed feelings on Wednesday after drawing another difficult away game.

The Reds have made a habit of dropping points on the road of late, with Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa mirroring the result at Everton one week before.

In the end, the point could still be a crucial one in the Premier League title race, but Liverpool really need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

With Mohamed Salah in the team, it’s safe to say the Reds have a very good chance of doing that.

Salah was at it again on Wednesday, hitting a goal and an assist for Liverpool to take his tally to 24 and 15 respectively in the league this season.

And having both scored and set up a goal at Villa Park, Liverpool’s Egyptian King did something not seen since a certain Lionel Messi at Barcelona 10 years ago.

Salah was terrific against Villa.

It wasn’t just his tangible contributions, the 32-year-old was a danger to the home team’s defence throughout the game.

It was a surprise to no one to see Salah pounce to put Liverpool ahead and thus extend his lead at the top of the Premier League scoring charts.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

What has been slightly more of a shock this term – although a small one at that – is just how regularly Salah has been assisting his teammates as well.

15 is a new personal best for the Egyptian in the Premier League.

And as it turns out, Salah has now done something not seen since prime Barcelona Messi.

As per OptaJoe on X, Liverpool’s No.11 is the first player to score and assist in 10 separate games in one of Europe’s top five leagues since Messi did it in 11 during 2014/15.

Asked about this statistic while speaking to LFCTV after Wednesday’s draw, Alexis Mac Allister – a man who knows Messi all too well – gave his reaction to Salah’s latest achievement.

“That’s a good stat for Mo!” smiled the Argentine.

Really happy for him.”

It has felt like almost every time Salah has played this season he is creating more history for Liverpool.

And as per Squawka on X, it was not only the Messi-related record which was notable after Wednesday’s game with Villa.

Salah became the first player to score and assist 15 or more goals in the Premier League since Eden Hazard did it with Chelsea in 2018/19.

The superstar winger also drew level with Steve McManaman for most assists for Liverpool in a Premier League season and is now only five goal contributions away from matching the best ever individual year in a 38-game campaign in the division’s history.

We are truly witnessing greatness week on week.

Let’s just hope Liverpool can give Mo the title he deserves at the end of it.
