Elliott continued to reflect on the incident which he felt responsible for, expressing disappointment at contributing to the defeat: “But it's football, it's a kick in the teeth really.
It's not nice to lose this way and it's not nice for it to be on you, as I gave away the penalty.
I need to keep my head up and keep pushing on."
Elliott might have been displeased, but his manager Arne Slot conceded that the second-half penalty awarded to the opposition was fair, praising their solid gameplay.
Speaking after their quadruple dreams were dashed in Devon, he commented: "Credit to them, a good game plan, they worked incredibly hard and they got a penalty that was deserved, because it was a clear penalty; a correct decision.
But that had a lot of impact on the game, of course, because both teams hardly had any chances and all of a sudden you get a penalty kick."

He added, with a tinge of disappointment: "Again, which was the correct decision, but they were 1-0 up and kept on fighting until the end.
