It has not been an easy few weeks for Liverpool after their form on the pitch took a slight downturn in March.
With news emerging during the international break that Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to leave for Real Madrid, fans were in need of a pick-me-up.
Clearly, winning the Premier League title in just a few short weeks will be the perfect tonic for that.
But aside from celebrating a first league title win in person at Anfield for 35 years, another thing that could boost the mood on Merseyside is a positive update on both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
Thankfully, after months and months – years even – of waiting, reports filtered through on Wednesday that Van Dijk and Salah are set to extend with Liverpool.
And as more details of the two much-anticipated new contracts emerge, journalist Fabrizio Romano has explained what Salah in particular has been saying to Liverpool behind the scenes.

Throughout Salah’s contract negotiations, it always felt as though the Egyptian was prioritising Liverpool.
And speaking on his YouTube channel late on Wednesday, Romano explained that this really was the case.
Mo did not want to be anywhere else, despite ‘aggressive’ overtures from Saudi Arabia.

“From Saudi they were more than aggressive for Mo Salah, prepared to offer him crazy money,” says the transfer expert.
“Not exactly the same amount they would love to offer one day to Vincius Junior one day, but close to that.”

“But Mo has been super respectful to Liverpool,” adds Romano.
Everything is going to be signed soon.”
As well as detailing that Salah is indeed very happy at Liverpool, Romano went on to answer a little bit of the ‘why’ the Egyptian has been so keen to stay, and it’s good news for Arne Slot.
“Mo is very happy with Arne Slot, same with Virgil van Dijk, so the manager has been important,” he said.
“To have a manager replace Jurgen Klopp and do the fantastic job he’s doing on the pitch but also off the pitch.
The relationship he has with the players was a crucial point and showing how this project can be long-term with Arne Slot is something that made a difference.”
Had Salah and Van Dijk seen what is going on at Liverpool this season and not wanted to stay exactly where they are, you’d have to wonder about the pair of them.
This project is just getting started and, thankfully, it will now have its two figureheads front and centre into the future.
