Liverpool have let some amazing players slip through their grasp over the years.
From Luis Figo to Mario Gotze, there have been so many who have been on the verge of wearing the famous red shirt only to see the dream end before it’s started.
These days, Liverpool are incredibly meticulous in the transfer market and if they want a player, they usually end up getting them.
But rewind to the 2000’s, and the Reds would often struggle to convince top targets into joining them.
However, throughout whatever struggles they may have been having, Anfield retained its mystique in the eyes of superstars within the game.
Take Thierry Henry, for example.
The Frenchman is a legend at Arsenal and within the Premier League and world football more generally.
But despite a glittering career elsewhere, Henry wished he’d played for Liverpool.

Henry is seen in the eyes of many as the Premier League’s greatest ever player.
His record of 222 goals in 377 games marks him out as perhaps Arsenal’s all-time best, too.
The silky striker also won a Champions League alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona in 2009 and a World Cup with France in 1998.

However, when asked by presenter Kate Abdo of CBS Sports Golazo to name the club he wished he’d played for but didn’t in June 2022, Henry named Liverpool.
“Wow, let me think,” replied the 47-year-old before giving himself a minute to ponder the question.

“It’s a tough one but I’m going to have to go, obviously we all know, but Liverpool.”
“I didn’t see that one coming,” admitted Abdo, while former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher – who Henry tormented during his time at Arsenal – couldn’t believe it either.
As it turns out, Henry’s admission from 2022 was not the first time he’d hailed Liverpool.
Quoted by The Mirror in 2008, the France legend claimed that Anfield was one of his favourite stadiums, admitting that there was ‘nothing like playing at Liverpool.’
“It’s the atmosphere I love.
“I’ve played in a lot of stadiums but for me, there is nothing like playing at Liverpool.”
“Nothing can beat Highbury, of course, but playing at Anfield was great.
It must be amazing if you are a Liverpool player.”
Unfortunately for Titi he never had that honour.
