Liverpool are getting geared up for a big summer transfer window after a quiet 2024.

The Reds made only one signing ahead of the 2024/25 season and chose to stay out of the market in January, too.

That has increased the pressure on Liverpool to make sure they get things right in the 2025 summer window.

There could be a lot to do for the Reds as well.

There are question marks over Darwin Nunez’s future, while Mohamed Salah could yet leave, too.

Should Liverpool lose Salah in particular, they are going to have to do something fairly big to replace him.

And according to Rousing The Kop transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey, Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams remains on the radar at Anfield.

Reports have suggested that Liverpool explored a deal for Williams last summer, before ultimately deciding not to act.

Although he looked destined to leave Athletic after a sizzling Euro 2024, Williams stayed put in Bilbao and could now move on this year instead.

Initially, the 22-year-old was believed to be destined for Barcelona when he eventually left Athletic, but there have been suggestions that Williams is open to a move to England in 2025.

And speaking exclusively to RTK, Bailey says Liverpool are one of the clubs who have now held talks with the Spain international’s agents about a potential transfer.

“His people have held talks with his suitors, Liverpool included.

We’ll see how it progresses in the next few months and how serious he is about leaving Spain.”

With a release clause of around £48m, Williams would not break the bank for Liverpool.

His wages are likely to be high, but so would any signing arriving to potentially replace Salah.

And despite a paltry return of just four goals and five assists for Athletic this season, there are signs that Williams could be worth the money.

Speaking during Euro 2024 last summer, Jose Mourinho claimed Williams was better than Lamine Yamal.

Should Williams give the green light to the Premier League this summer, the Reds look well placed to be in the mix.
