Martin Zubimendi has been linked with a move to Liverpool for the majority of 2024, with rumours expected to continue well into the New Year.
The Spanish international was key to La Roja’s win at this summer’s Euros, with Liverpool making a strong effort to sign Zubimendi in the summer before the midfielder opted to remain with Real Socedad for the season.
WIth Liverpool still interested in signing Zubimendi, though, there remains a good chance that the Anfield side could still land the 25-year-old maestro, who could view 2025 as the year to leave his boyhood club and to try something new in his career.
Yet Sociedad sporting director Roberto Olabe has seemingly put the brakes on Zubimendi leaving in January.

Speaking to the press over the weekend, the La Liga official revealed how he is confident in Zubimendi remaining with Sociedad over the January transfer window, with Olabe not expecting any surprises in the market.
Olabe said: “Zubimendi has a release clause, yes, but it’s always the player to decide and he’s been showing how committed he is to our project.
So far, we’ve seen how he has behaved and I don’t predict any scares in January for Zubimendi to leave.”
With Zubimendi not named in Sociedad’s squad on the weekend to face Celta Vigo, there had been whispers that the decision was made due to a potential January transfer being lined up, with Liverpool’s name obviously in the mix if such a deal was to be made.
However, with Olabe predicting Zubimendi to remain in San Sebastian until next summer, Liverpool fans might have to hold off their excitement in the Spanish international making the move to Anfield for just a little bit longer.

Liverpool are interested in signing four players in 2025 as Arne Slot looks to improve his squad that next year could go all the way in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and the domestic cup competitions.
And central midfield is a position that will need a signing or two if the Reds are to go all the way in these battles for silverware, with Liverpool already linked with the likes of Morten Frendrup as well as Torino and Italy maestro Samuele Ricci.
Indeed, a midfielder is a top priority for Liverpool heading into 2025, and with Zubimendi off the table, the Reds have to look elsewhere for other options if Slot is to flesh out his squad ahead of an exciting second-half of the season.
