Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker believe Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will always struggle to be clinical in front of goal.
The midfielder unselfishly squared the ball to substitute Nunez, taking goalkeeper Emi Martinez out of the equation, but the striker blazed his shot over the crossbar from less than 10 yards out under some pressure from defender Axel Disasi, squandering the Reds' best chance for a 3-2 victory.
On Thursday, Nunez then vowed on social media not to "throw in the towel" after his miss.
Frustrated Liverpool boss Arne Slot, however, criticised the 25-year-old’s work-rate following the shot, rather than his wayward finishing.
And former strikers Shearer and Lineker are convinced that Nunez’s lack of composure is not something he will fix during his time at Anfield.
“Some of the chances that were missed, particularly from a Liverpool point of view,” Shearer said on the Rest is Football podcast.
“Yet you see him miss the number of chances that he does." Shearer brutally concluded: "Unfortunately for him and for Liverpool, he’s never going to be a natural finisher.”

After Lineker described Nunez as “erratic”, Shearer added: “He’s very erratic.
I suppose when your confidence is shot, you are off-balance, I guess, but what an absolute sitter unfortunately.”
Nunez has scored six goals so far this season and has more commonly featured as a substitute under new boss Slot, which may have contributed to his dip in form.
